Chapter Three: In Which Jack and Dave Try to Remind Lynda to Leave the Light on
December 2013….Albany, NY
““I hope it is true that a man can die and yet not only live in others but give them life, and not only life, but that great consciousness of life.”.” Jack Kerouac
“Keep your head up
Try and listen to your heart
Be kind always, no matter
We all grow up
And someday well say goodbye
So shine your light while you got one
Make the most of what you’ve got
Don’t waste time being trying to be something you’re not
Fill up your head and fill up you heart and take your shot
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not.” Dave Matthews
“Father up above, why in all this anger have you fill
Me up with love
Fill me love love love
Love love love
And the blood of our children all around”
Happy Christmas. Short and simple today…not normally my strong point but this crazy trip (Over 60 locations in 4 months!)has really put my life under the microscope. Time wasted. Time treasured. Anger. Frustration. Hurt. Fun. Hopes. Flickers of joy. But bonus quote of the day–“It all comes down to nothing”. But wait – or does it come down to nothing? Well, yes, it does in many ways but we all know there are ways to make things matter. We feel it. We feel the lack of it. We see the way the air turns to color when love surrounds us and we see the way the air becomes grey and heavy in its absence. For the first time in my life (mainly because of this trip), I have no Christmas tree. Christmas is so scaled down, that I worried it might just fade away. But thanks to my daughter and my awareness of the true meaning of this moment in time to me, I am off to visit the unwanted elderly. (No “Senior Resort” here but a man who gets cough drops stuck all over his shirt and no one tells him. A lady that is stinky…) I have found time after time that BECAUSE I can/am not focusing on who I am and what I need, I am looking to others and trying to lift any small burden. God, it feels so great! SO I know why I shine my light. Why do you shine yours?
I’d love to know you…
Tell me who you are.
Tell me how the music fills your soul.
Tell me if I’m right. Tell me if I’m wrong…
